What do I do if my Detroit Card is declined?

If your Detroit Card is declined, it could be because:

  • The information is entered into the POS or terminal system incorrectly, try re-entering the information
  • The value on the card is less than what is trying to be redeemed. Have an additional payment form ready in this instance.
  • You are trying to redeem the Detroit Card at a non-participating business

Will my payment automatically deduct from the card if I don't have enough to cover my entire balance?

In the event that your purchase exceeds the amount in your balance, purchases will need to be split up separately with the Detroit Card balance being paid first.

Can I use the same card at multiple locations?

Yes, as long as there is a remaining balance, the Detroit Card may be used at any participating location.

How is the Detroit Card redeemed?

The Detroit Card is keyed in manually into a business’ POS or terminal systems. Detroit Cards cannot be swiped.

Are physical Detroit Cards an option?

The Detroit Card is available electronically. As long as you have your cell phone, you have access to your Detroit Card! You’ll never have to worry about printing it out or losing a plastic card.

Will my card work anywhere?

The Detroit Card can be used at any location that has signed up for the program. Additional businesses are being added every day!

Can refunds be provided to my card?

Yes -- just as refunds would be applied to your credit card, they can also be applied to your Detroit Card.

Is there a cost associated with purchasing a Detroit Card? How much does it cost to purchase a card?

There is absolutely no cost to the Detroit Card recipient. When you purchase a Detroit Card, you only pay $1.00 per card and 5% of the total value of the gift amount.

What happens if my purchase amount exceeds the balance on my Detroit Card?

In the event that your purchase exceeds the amount in your balance, you will need to have a separate form of payment to cover the difference of the purchase amount.
